No Skunking Allowed
As business owners, we often think "culture" is just a buzzword—something that happens naturally if you hire nice people. But recently, our leadership team dove into The Culture Code by Daniel Coyle, and it changed how we view our internal brand.
Here is the reality: Your internal culture is your external marketing.
If your team is disjointed or negative, your customers will feel it. You can’t build a 5-star brand with a 1-star attitude. That’s why we traded vague mission statements for 5 actionable rules. Our favorite?
Rule #5: No Skunking.
"Skunking" is the act of letting a bad attitude or "stinky" energy permeate the room. Studies show one "bad apple" can tank a team's productivity by 30-40%. We have a zero-tolerance policy for negativity that doesn't offer a solution.
The Lesson for You: Check your signal. Are you building a culture where people "Own the Outcome" and are "Happy to Help"? Or are there skunks in the office? Your marketing strategy starts in the breakroom, not on Facebook.
